Student life from another point of view

Partying, drinking, and an unhealthy living style– these are the clichés people have on their mind when they think of Erasmus student life.

As a second year student and a passionate sportsman and wakeboarder, I never believed in the cliché student life, because it’s much more than just drinking and party hard.

So, the first days after my arrival in Budapest, I asked myself where I could do my daily workout, wakeboarding and I was asking myself which other kinds of sports I could do in the Hungarian capital.

After some research I found Margaret Island (which will be descripted underneath), the Omszk wakeboard center, and for those who want to do some sport and sightseeing at once, a city tour bike.

Margaret Island

A 2.5-kilometer long and 500 meter wide Island in the middle of the Danube in the center of Budapest. Margaret Island offers various sport possibilities like:

  • The largest open-air swimming complex (Palatinus water park) in Budapest).
  • The Alfred Hajos sports pools where the LC Championship in 2010 took place.
  • A Tennis and athletic center
  • For the passionate runners, the island has a 5.35 km rubber-coted running track. This track is not only popular among the locals but alsoby tourist because firstly for his easy access and secondly for his beautiful view on the

Aside from all these sports facilities for enthusiastic sportsman, Margaret Island also bid beautiful promenade through the park.

First what is ?

Wakeboarding is a surface water sport which involves riding a wakeboard over the surface of a body of water. It was developed from a combination of water skiing, snowboarding, and surfing techniques.

The Wakeboard center

The cable park of the Hungarian capital, is located at Budakalász 20 minutes from the center.

The cable possesses 7 features. (2 kicker, 1 A-frame, 1 Ton , 2 Big slider, 1 up-flatbar)

The team of the cable park offers beginner courses for 1500 HUF and private morning class for 5000 HUF.

Because of the living standard in Hungary we could think that the price per hour for wakeboarding is cheaper than in other countries, but that’s not true. The omszk wakeboard centrum offers European standard prices.Wakeboarding

City tour bike

There is no better way to see the sights & learn the history of Budapest than by joining a bike tour.

Spend a relaxing day touring both sides of the Danube with a small group and see the highlights of Budapest as for example, a short stop at the Hungarian parliament, the castle and much more for only 18 € (5400 HUF)
